The Journey of Life

Consistency

You probably can’t see the difference,
Between today you and yesterday you,
But if you were to use a year as a point of reference,
You’d look back and say that these people are two,

Such is the way that things work,
Patience is very important in the long run,
Once you decide to walk the walk,
See it through even if you take a wrong turn,

Just do something small everyday,
That will take you one step closer to your goal,
At times in the same spot you will stay,
Other times you will feel pain cause of the fall,

But just keep at it and stick to your craft,
Create more until there’s a talent overdraft,
And even then say that your next work will be your best,
Dedicate hours, months and years let no time be a waste.

Mary

We’ve been together now for eight years,
You were there with me through the tears,
You were there with me through my fears,
But it’s about time to say cheers,

Oh no, it’s not you it’s me,
There’s just somewhere I need to be,
This isn’t the life I envisioned with glee,
Overall I just want to be free,

But before I go how about we reminisce,
About the times you were nothing but bliss,
Every 4:20 couldn’t wait for you to touch my lips,
Every breath of you lifts me high from the abyss,

But the too much of anything is bad,
Funny how you were only meant to be a fad,
And now you are the main reason I feel sad,
Affected the relationship with my dad,

Perhaps we will meet again when I am older,
When my life is in check and I will be stronger,
When I won’t be needing your love on nights so colder,
For now, the only thing I want is to be sober.

Escape

Puff, puff, pass,
Wish the feeling would las’,

Sip, sip, glass,
Hangover too heavy to nurse,

Pour, pour, drank,
Best high you can take that to the bank,

Sex, sex, fun,
Can’t tolerate her once I’m done,

Escape, escape, escape,
Proving to be my hero without a cape,

Anxiety, anxiety, anxiety,
Wonder if the cure is a life of piety,

Peace, peace, peace,
Only thing that can put my mind at ease,

It’s part of our survival instincts to want to run away,
When the pressure seems too much to bear or stay,
We find ourselves escaping to keep our unhappiness at bay,
But escaping is never the solution all it does is delay,

We need to be able to face our problems head-on,
Avoiding them will not make them magically gone,
In fact, they end up compounding leaving us more torn,
But when we face them and win we become stronger reborn.

Words of Encouragement

No one can see the pressure that you are always on,
Things get tough and you handle everything on your own,
Even when the world leaves you battered, beaten and torn,
You still have the energy to keep pushing on,

Today was especially heavy and you felt like giving up and walking away,
Tired of cliché advice from others such as where there is a will there is a way,
Wondering where is that breakthrough, where is that pay,
Where is that motivation that will see you through another day,

You see, growth and development is built through times like these,
Times that are so heavy that they get you on your knees,
Having you looking up to God and saying please,
Praying for a time when everything will be a breeze,

You see, nothing comes easy and it shouldn’t,
With every obstacle that you face and overcome, you actually grow,
You become better equipped to face others that you initially couldn’t,
So keep on keeping on and see what developments the future has in store.

Misunderstood Girl

I can see her walking towards me,
The brown hue of her eyes is all that I can see,
She gives me a smirk gesture as if she can tell how she’s killing me,
When we hug it lingers a bit longer, I can tell that she’s feeling me,

She has a very beautiful voice,
But she doesn’t talk much,
She carries herself with so much calm and poise,
You couldn’t tell that her thoughts rush,

We sit down and her tone is rather enchanting,
Each word steadily getting my heart pumping,
Her charm is slowly winning me over,
Damn! The slit in her dress, I’m losing my composure,

The theme of our conversation went a bit personal,
I got inquisitive of where she got all of that soul,
She grew up in a home she never really considered her own,
Dad, is this really all the love you could have shown?

She ended up having a strong resentment towards her father,
Constantly competing for his love with her stepmother,
The lack of warmth made her heart become colder,
She doesn’t open up much, the walls she built could only make her feel stronger,

Now all she wants to do is to get away,
Start her own life and make a better day,
She needs a bit more power, cause now she feels trapped,
Take it one step at a time and find a platform to showcase her art.

Dark Knight Rises

I haven’t written in over a year,
You could say that I ran out of ideas,
But really it was due to the fear,
Of the vulnerability in stating my tears,

Been struggling with substance abuse,
Whenever my thoughts decided to run loose,
Been high every day for three years over,
This is actually the first poem I’ve written sober,

Can’t really tell when the habit started,
Can’t really say I’m proud of how long it’s lasted,
This was never really the life that I wanted,
It’s about time that my demons I confronted,

I’m growing too old for these childish mistakes,
It doesn’t take much effort to see I have what it takes,
To make a change and to be one of the greats,
And stop running away whenever my heart aches,

Furthermore, I apologize to all the girls that I said no to,
Because I couldn’t string you along into the struggle that I go through,
I additionally apologize to all the girls I let in and hearts I broke too,
It was never my intention to make you feel blue,

Back to topic cause sometimes I have a tendency to digress,
The main reason I wrote this was to let go of some stress,
I’m just sick and tired of being a hot mess,
It’s about time that I showcase a bit of my finesse.

This Is Not A Poem

Just like Jesus Christ,
You have to carry your own cross,
Some crosses are bigger than others,
But people are built differently,
Some can carry heavier loads than others,
Some cannot handle as much,
But nonetheless, everyone has their own cross to bear,
Someone might look at yours and wonder why you complain,
But don’t let that stress your brain,
He/She does not know your cross’ weight and strain,
No one except you can understand the pain,
Stressing will only drive you insane,
But you know what’s a shame?
When you give up and can’t handle the weight,
Too many people reach that point sooner or late,
And due to the gravity of the situation, they come tumbling down,
Ending up crushed by the heaviness in their hearts and frown,
What would I advise you?
Build yourself so that you grow big enough to lift your cross,
Life being full of additional challenges inevitably gives you a loss,
But carry your cross and carry it with pride,
Take your time with each and every stride,
Reach the top of the mountain and get crucified,
You will come back stronger like when Jesus died.

Underdog Reflection

There’s no pain as big, as feeling small,
When you’re still weak, even when being strong,
When you’ve got the loudest voice, but they put you behind a brick wall,
When you’re given a choice, but all ultimatums lead to your fall,

You try to make the changes to set your path,
But something always messes up your math,
All in all, you can’t help but feel stuck,
Like a leprechaun who’s run out of luck,

Unfortunately, the worst part is that it doesn’t get any easier for you,
You’ve got to stay strong and work like you’re working for two,
Learn to ignore other people cause they don’t have a clue,
About your struggles and best believe they are facing something too,

I can relate cause I know this feeling all too well,
I wish I could write about it like Adele,
Make you feel my charm just like a spell,
But sometimes my words get trapped inside like a cell.

Broken Smile

She’s the type to never feel alone,
Even when no one texts her phone,
She doesn’t take L’s she always won,
He never appreciated her till she was gone,

She’s got to be strong for the week,
Momma didn’t raise her weak
She’s grown now at her peak,
Still wasn’t ready for her parent’s split,

Nothing was ever going to be the same,
Her personal thoughts lingered on “what a shame”,
Sometimes it’s hard to accept the change,
Being in a situation that’s nothing but strange,

Diamonds are created in heat and pressure,
She’s hot and she’s going through pressure,
That means she’s a gem, a wonderful creature,
You’ll get through this cause life is but a teacher.
